COVID–19 Pandemic : Impact on Education Sector

Coronavirus pandemic has significantly disrupted various sectors across the world. The impact may be more in some sectors and less in others, but every sector has surely been severely affected. So has been the education sector also. With the State Governments shutting down schools indefinitely, students have been severely impacted by the pandemic crisis. It is uncertain as to when the schools shall reopen and the uncertainty extends itself to the system of examinations too. According to a report, due to the closedown of educational institutes, it is estimated that over 600 million students across the world shall suffer the impact. With passing of days and no immediate solution to check the outbreak of Covid – 19, school and institute closures will not only have a short term impact on the continuity of learning for over 285 million students in India alone, but also generate far – reaching economic and societal consequences. With missed opportunities for learning and disrupted examination cycle, it has become necessary to ensure accessibility of learning to the students. In this time of crisis, a well – rounded and effective educational practice is what is needed for the capacity – building of young brains. It is essential to develop skills that will drive their employability, productivity, and well – being in the decades to come, and ensure the overall progress of Indian Education System. A multi – pronged strategy with digitization has become the need of the hour to manage the crisis with efficacy, and build the education system more and more into online platforms in the long run.
